Wayne Wells
Described as one of “fastball’s greatest”, Wayne had an outstanding career spanning 30 years; playing locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. He played 25 years in the Peterborough Men’s City Softball League as a hard throwing right handed hurler who dominated on the mound and at the plate. Wayne won a record 13 City League Championships and is a 6-time finalist. In one particular span of dominance from 1995-2006, he played in only 9 of those 12 years and won the City League Championship all 9 years. He has an impressive list of league awards – regular season MVP’s, play-off MVP’s, batting average awards and the Dave Leether “Mr. Softball” Memorial Award. In league play of other cities; Cobourg, Oshawa, East York – he won their league championships 8 times. Provincially, Wayne has won 16 Ontario Amateur Softball Association (OASA) provincial medals; 7 Gold and 9 Silver. Competed in three Canadian Senior Men’s National Championships for Ontario and is a two-time gold medal winner at the Canadian Masters Fastball Championships. At the International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournaments, Wayne pitched 9 consecutive years and is a two-time gold medal winner at the ISC +50 Legends Tournament. Wayne organized and pitched in Peterborough’s only team appearances in the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship and the ISC World Tournaments. North American sanctioned championships included winning the gold medal in the North American Fastpitch Association World Series, where he also received the tournament’s Most Valuable Pitcher Award. Wayne is inducted into the Ontario Masters Fastball Hall of Fame. In the words of former PMCSL President Brian McFadden, “Other teams know they have to beat him to win the league. He doesn’t know how to spell the word lose.” Wayne has a record that will be hard to beat.
