Cory Stillman
Cory grew up in Peterborough playing church league softball, competitive baseball and all-star hockey. He won an Ontario Championship with the Minor Novice Petes. With the 1989-90 Junior B Roadrunners, he was 5th in MTJHL scoring with 84 points. He was a 1990 second round (27th overall) draft pick of the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League. In his first season with Windsor, he scored 101 points and was named OHL Rookie of the Year. Traded to the Petes in 1992, he scored 80 points for the 92-93 OHL Champions and Memorial Cup Finalists. He was the first round draft pick (6th overall) of the Calgary Flames in the 1992 NHL draft. Cory started his professional career with the Saint John Flames in the AHL before moving up to the Calgary Flames (1994-2001). In 2001 he was traded to the St. Louis Blues and from there played on several NHL teams – Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers before returning to the Carolina Hurricanes where he finished his career in 2011 having played 1025 games. Not many players get to win the Stanley Cup, but Cory had the honour of hoisting the cup twice. The first with Tampa Bay in 2004 scoring 80 points in regular season and adding 7 more in playoffs. His second came with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006 scoring 76 points in regular season and adding 25 more in the playoffs. He played for Team Canada at the 1999 IIHF World Hockey Championships where he was the team’s leading scorer. A proven scorer, Cory currently sits in the top 200 in all-time NHL scoring. He had impressive statistics over the course of his successful career – OHL 297 points in 178 games, AHL 172 points in 142 games, NHL 727 points in 1025 games.
