Robert (Red) Creighton
Robert (Red) Creighton was born in Quebec City, moved here at age eight, and although he was an excellent itinerant athlete for two decades, always came back to Peterborough.
He was a man of many talents. Named Peterborough’s best all-round athlete of the early 1930s, he was catcher on the baseball team that went to the Ontario finals. Red also played softball, did a little boxing and wrestling, indulged heavily in soccer (two seasons with the district champions), rugby and track.
Red played 21 seasons of hockey in such cities as Sudbury, Quebec, Akron(OH), Toronto, Owen Sound, Canadian Army at Brampton and, yes, the Peterborough Petes which he later managed and coached. His lacrosse history began here in 1931 but he also played in Belleville, Oshawa, Orillia, Hamilton and Toronto. A starry goaltender, his talents were in much demand. He came back to Peterborough in the late 1940s to play and coach in Sr. B and later Sr. A.
He also scouted many years for the Detroit Red Wings Hockey Club. He died in 1990.
