R. H. (Bun) Kingdon
Here is an athlete who excelled in hockey, although he never played in a boxed-in or covered arena until his team reached the public school finals. Bun Kingdon was also a very fine baseball player.
In hockey, he played five years of junior, starting at age 15. His teams had memorable series with Toronto St. Mike’s and with Barrie, but they never won an Ontario title. Bun played centre with the Petes’ club that won Ontario Int. A and Eastern Canada honours in 1940, and with the OHA Sr. B titlists of 1941-42.
Kingdon was a fine second baseman on Peterborough teams of the old COBL, and later the Toronto Viaduct League, for ten years. He was named MVP in 1938, hitting a fine .328 average.
Upon retirement from these two sports, he took up tennis and curling. He died in 2000.
