Joseph A. (Joe) Rochetta

This Peterborough native was small of stature but big in talent and heart. Joe Rochetta had a long and distinguished hockey career in a sport where he stood out.

He played his entire career here, starting with the Sacred Heart League. As a junior, he was with the Monarchs and Petes before joining the Intermediate A Petes during the 1939-40 seasons to win the OHA and Eastern Canada championship. After serving overseas in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II, Joe returned and helped form the Legion Hockey Club.

Rochetta was an integral part of the Legion and McGillis Eagles teams in Sr. B play until 1951 when a broken leg ended his senior career at age 30. He had been a high-scoring member of the 1948-49 Legion team that won OHA Sr. B honours.

He continued in the sport as coach for several years in the Community Church Hockey League, as well as the Lindsay Intermediates for two years. He died in 2003.
