John (Johnny) Davis
Born in 1944, Johnny Davis is a Peterborough native who played all of his minor lacrosse here, starting at age five in the old Miller Bowl. His first junior lacrosse was based out of Hastings, in 1962, and that club won the Minto Cup with Johnny finishing runner-up in scoring.
For the next three seasons, Davis played with Oshawa Green Gaels and won the League scoring title all three years, establishing a junior record of 91 goals, 93 assists for 184 points. Oshawa won the Minto Cup two of those years. Although small of stature, Johnny had physical moves which enabled him to beat the largest checkers.
He came back home to play senior from 1966 through 1973 and his first season was sensational. He was Rookie of the Year and League scoring champion, the team won the Mann Cup, and Davis was MVP of the Cup finals. The next season, he was a late pickup by Brooklin for Mann Cup action and while his team lost, Davis was co-winner of Cup MVP honours. He later played with Montreal in the now-defunct National Lacrosse League.
