James (Jim) Dean Wasson
Jim Wasson was an outstanding athlete where his spirit and desire enabled him to rise to superstar status in clutch situations. In three years of Junior “A” lacrosse Jim won the team scoring championship in 1971 and his PCO team won the Minto Cup in 1972.
Between 1973 and 1986 Jim made 8 Mann Cup appearances winning the coveted trophy 5 times. He captained the 1979 and 1984 championship teams and was the series MVP in 1982. Jim scored over 1000 points in his box lacrosse career, a highlight being one game when he scored eleven goals and six assists. He played professional lacrosse with the Philadelphia Wings in 1974 and 1975. In 1978 Jim was a member of Canada’s World Field Lacrosse championship team.
Jim’s hockey accomplishments included being the MVP on Peterborough’s 1962 Ontario Novice Championship team, a member of the 1968/69 All-Ontario Juvenile Champions and the 1969/70 OMHA Juvenile Champions. In 1971, his Junior “B” Lions hockey team won Gold at the Canada Winter Games in Saskatoon.
In 1975/76 Jim led the Trent University team in scoring and he was selected to the Ontario College team.
Jim still maintains a keen interest in sports and in 1998 he coached the Kawartha Girls’ Field Lacrosse team to Gold in the Canada Summer Games.
