Harold F. Dormer
Harold Dormer was a pioneer promoter of the game of softball, not only in this city but across the province as well. He earned his share of playing honours, but it was as an executive that he left his main mark.
He played on City League softball championship clubs in 1930, 1931 and 1935, the latter team (Sugar Bowl) also winning the Southern Ontario title. Dormer also played at a high level of competition in curling.
He became active in the administrative end of softball and touched all of the bases en route to becoming President of the Ontario Amateur Softball Association. He was Ontario’s representative to the Canadian Amateur Softball Association from 1967 to 1978, and was granted a Life Membership in the OASA in 1976.
Always dedicated, Harold was respected by everyone who knew him. He always took time to say hello and his pleasant manner often helped ease tense boardroom situations. He died in 1983.
