John Kasperski
As a high school athlete in Toronto, John competed at the OFSAA championships in discus and high jump. While attending Eastern Michigan University he was a varsity athlete in basketball and track and field. He went on to Queens University where he was a member of the championship CIAU track and field team. In 1970 John came to Peterborough to teach at Kenner CVI. For the next 25 years he coached teams and individuals in track & field, basketball, volleyball and hockey, winning OFSAA, COSSA and Kawartha titles in hockey and basketball. Under his guidance, a number of high school athletes medaled at OFSAA. As a masters athlete, John has participated at the provincial, national and international level in track and field. He has 28 Ontario and 29 Canadian outdoor championships; 17 Ontario indoor championships; 5 Ontario Masters Weight Pentathlon championships and holds Canadian records for men’s 55 and 65 weight pentathlon and men’s 55 shot put. He holds the Ontario masters indoor records in men’s 45 shot put and 70 weight throw, and outdoor records in weight throw, discus, shot put and hammer throw. John continues to compete at 75+ masters competition in Canada and around the world. He is a member of the Canadian Throwers Club. He was named City of Peterborough Athlete of the Year in 1989 and was inducted into the Athletics Ontario Hall of Fame in 2019.
