William R. (Charlie) Lobb
Born in Norwood in 1921, Charlie moved to Peterborough when he was 18 and resided here his remaining 61 years. He was one of the founding members of the Peterborough Fish and Game Association. He devoted his time and effort at the club as a Board of Director, Chief Range Officer, Coach, and Safety Instructor. He was also an avid target shooter himself. Charlie was considered to be one of the top Firearm Instructors in the Province of Ontario, receiving the Larry Hughes Memorial Award in 1996 for “Instructor of the Year” presented by the Ontario Handgun Association. He earned coaching credentials from the Coaching Association of Canada for Target Shooting. Charlie was the “workhorse” of the Peterborough Fish & Game Association and the Peterborough Revolver & Pistol Club. His devotion to the shooting sports is legendary. He trained hundreds of people of all ages in the safe and responsible handling of firearms. Safety came first with Charlie. In 1992 he was awarded a Life Membership in the Peterborough Fish and Game Association.
The ‘Charlie Lobb Memorial Trophy’ is presented annually to the top handgun shooter in the Peterborough Fish and Game Association in memory of this selfless, highly principled man, who gave so much to his sport and asked for very little in return. Hi died in 1999.
