William R. (Bill) Edger
Bill Edger was a very versatile athlete who performed at a high skill level in baseball, basketball and volleyball over a 15-year span. He played a key role on teams which won provincial championships in all three sports.
Born in Bowmanville, ON, Bill moved here in 1942 and starred as a righthanded pitcher with city baseball teams. When he later moved to first base, his hitting was a big asset. He was the top starting pitcher and leading hitter with the 1949 Outboard Marine team that won Ontario Sr. B honours.
As a starting forward with the Outboard Marine Basketball Team that won Ontario Int. A honours in 1947, Bill excelled both on offence and defence. He ranked among top scorers and rebounders for several teams which represented Peterborough in out-of-town action.
Bill was captain and top spiker on the YMCA volleyball team that won the 1961 Ontario Intermediate Championship. He died in 2007.
