Steve Terry
Steve Terry moved to Peterborough from Toronto in 1975 and had an immediate impact upon the local baseball scene. He started coaching here in 1977 and is still presently active as a coach for the Peterborough River Dogs.
In 1979, he coached the Peterborough Juniors to a provincial title and in 1994 the Bantam Peterborough Tigers, who won the AAA Ontario Championship. In 1987 he was invited to coach and scout for the Canadian National Baseball Team and continued to coach them for another eight years. In 1993, he was a coach with the Canadian National Team, winning a Bronze Medal at the World University Games. In 1987, Steve became a baseball instructor for Baseball Ontario and in 1992 he became a baseball scout for the Major League Scouting Bureau. In 1996, he became an assistant scout for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Locally, Steve has coached from bantam right up to senior ball. Many of his players went on to play in the U.S.A. on baseball scholarships and, to date, four of his players have been drafted by the major leagues. He has always been willing to work with young, local ballplayers and has spent many days at Riverside Park where he also assists with the upkeep of the ball park.
In 2002, Steve was honoured by the City of Peterborough as being Sports Personality of the Year and, also that same year, was honoured by having the street into Riverside Park being named Steve Terry Way.
Steve continues to coach and instruct baseball players of all ages and hopes to continue for many more years.
