Stan Marris
Stan Marris came to Peterborough in 1965. He immediately became involved in the local soccer scene. His first role was as a referee and he soon realized the need for the organization and training of soccer referees at the local level. Stan was one of the founders of both the Peterborough and District Soccer Association and the Peterborough Soccer Referees Association. He played a key role from the earliest days of both organizations. He was the President for many years of the PDSA and it was his dedication, leadership and commitment to improving the standards that contributed to the growth and development of all levels of soccer in Peterborough – minor, women and senior.
In order for the sport to grow, new facilities and fields were required if the game was to flourish and Stan Marris was the lynchpin that brought this growth to reality. He was a driving force behind the building of Eastgate Park and for better facilities for the young soccer players. Stan is a true pioneer of soccer in the city and in the province and his name is synonymous with the game’s development. Mr. Marris was the “representative voice” for the sport of soccer in this community. He died in 2009.
