Rose Powers

Growing up in a Peterborough sporting family, Rose took up many sports:  lacrosse, rugby, slo-pitch, ball hockey and ice hockey.  While she achieved success in other sports, it was hockey where she made her mark.  Rose has been an integral part of the Peterborough Girls Hockey Association from the very beginning, as a player in 1979, to coach and executive member.  She came up through the system winning 10 OWHA provincial championships, and numerous silver and bronze medals from pee wee B to senior AA.  She was a member of the Senior AAA Peterborough Skyway of the former Central Ontario Women’s Hockey League in 1993, 1995 and 1996.  Rose was the PGHA Midget AA assistant coach for the 1993 Ontario Winter Games winning a bronze medal and head coach for the 1998 Ontario Winter Games and coached at the first outdoor “Hockey Day Under the Lock” tournament in 2009. During her term as PGHA President from 2004 to 2013, Rose took on many initiatives that strengthened the organization, one of which was promoting the “Ice Kats” brand for the PGHA and helping it to become one of the strongest female hockey organizations in the province. She captained her women’s box lacrosse team for two years; won gold at the National E Slo-Pitch Championships in 2005 and gold at the Canadian Hockey Enterprises Championship tournament in Montreal in 2005.  Number “88” was a leader on every team she played on, as captain and often top scorer.  Rose Powers has dedicated her life to promoting and developing female hockey in Peterborough.  She continues to play and coach the game she loves.
