Roger Self
Roger Self carved out a long and unmatched career at the Kawartha Golf & Country Club.
Known for his dedication, discipline and sharp play around the greens, Roger has been a dominant golfer at Kawartha and in the district. He won the Kawartha Club championship a record seven times, in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1990 and 1999. He won the Peterborough City and District championship five times, in 1983, 1986, 1993, 1999 and 2000. In 1986 alone, Roger won his club championship, the city and district championship, the prestigious Kawartha Invitational and competed in the Ontario Amateur championship for the second straight year.
Roger competed in three Ontario Amateur tournaments in 1985, 1986 and 1995. He played three times in the Canadian Champion of Champions tournament and three times in the Canadian Mid-Amateur tournament, going all the way to the semi-finals in 1989. In 2002, Roger finished second in the Canadian Senior Championship and was ranked second among Ontario’s thousands of senior golfers, a rank he maintained in 2003. In 2003, he won the Dalewood Senior Invitational, finished second in the Ontario Senior Amateur which earned him a berth on the four man provincial team that represented Ontario at the Canadian Senior Amateur tournament. Roger finished 10th in the individual scoring.
Roger received the Chuck Kearns Memorial Trophy in 1987 as the city’s Senior Male Athlete of the Year. In 2002, he received a City of Peterborough Civic Sports Award.
