Rob Fitzgerald

Born in Peterborough, Rob Fitzgerald was a three-sport athlete, competing in Lacrosse, Fastball and Hockey. As a youth he played in the PMLA. During his high school years, he won an All-Ontario championship with St. Peter High School. In 2003 Rob was a member of the OLA Senior B Ennismore Shamrocks. In fastball, Rob represented Peterborough as a youth before entering the Peterborough Men’s City Fastball League at age 15. During his career he was named a Golden Glover at shortstop and won 3 City League titles. In 2003 his Peterborough team won a silver medal at the OASA Intermediate Provincial Championships and followed up with a gold medal at the Intermediate Provincial Championships in 2004. He began his minor hockey in Keene and then went to AAA hockey in Peterborough before joining the Junior B Pete’s at age 16. In his rookie season he scored 31 goals and added 40 assists for a total of 71 points in 35 games. He was named team MVP, team Rookie of the Year, League Rookie of the Year, Rookie All-Star Game MVP, and All-Star Game MVP. In 2006 he was inducted into the Peterborough Junior B ring of honour with a banner that hung from the rafters at the Evinrude Centre. In 1995 Rob was drafted by Owen Sound – 25th overall in the OHL Draft. That season he earned the team’s Rookie of the Year honours. In 153 OHL regular season games with Owen Sound and the Belleville Bulls, he tallied 103 points. He went on to a minor pro career with Fort Worth, Flint, and Port Huron. Rob has volunteered his time with the Otonabee Wolves, Peterborough AAA Minor Petes, and the PMLA as a coach. Fitzgerald received Coach of the Year with the PMHC in 2017. As a member of several coaching staffs, he has won two Provincial Gold medals in lacrosse as well as bronze and silver medals at the OMHA championships in minor hockey.
