Ralph Rowe
An all-round athlete, Ralph Rowe was a member of championship teams in basketball, softball and football. He was a highly skilled and incredibly durable athlete, whose outstanding basketball career spanned more than 40 years.
A Peterborough native, Ralph was recruited to play for the Peterborough Jets intermediate basketball team while still in high school. He starred on the 1962-63 Fitzgerald Oilers and fourteen years later with the 1976-77 Pilon Pistons, Peterborough teams that won Ontario Intermediate B titles.
Ralph was known for his aggressive rebounding and high scoring. He was top scorer during the 1968-69 season when the Peterborough Empress Hotel Jets won the Provincial Intermediate A consolation championship.
Moving to Oshawa, Ralph commuted to Peterborough for 16 years to play basketball. His leadership and ability were major factors in winning three Ontario titles and numerous Provincial tournaments.
Ralph played for Oshawa and was a scoring leader at the World Masters Tournament in Toronto. In 1989, Ralph played with the Toronto Greyhounds in an International Masters Tournament in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In softball, Ralph was a solid outfielder and hitter for Georgies in the Peterborough City League for five years, winning a Provincial Zone 4 championship in 1965 and City title in 1966.
Ralph’s 1957 Kenner Collegiate football team won a COSSA senior championship and he was named the team’s outstanding player in 1958.
