R. F. (Bob) Jamieson
Born in Bowmanville, Bob Jamieson came to Peterborough at age five and became an outstanding athlete in two sports – golf and hockey.
He took up hockey at age 11 and played all of his minor game here, first with the Jr. B’s, and at age 17 moved up to play four seasons with the Petes. A defenceman, he was Petes’ captain in his final junior season. Partly because of his keen interest in golf, Bob spent his pro hockey career in the minors. He played at Cleveland, Memphis, Houston and Syracuse, and when traded to a Philadelphia farm team at age 27, retired from pro ranks.
Jamieson began caddying in golf at age 13 and learned the game quickly enough to win two Ontario Junior Championships. Some of his best matches were against another city golf protege, John Kindred. Bob earned a golf scholarship to University of Houston but after two years he was dropped from the school team for not asking his coach’s permission to marry. Bob is still an active golfer in the area.
