R. E. (Reg) Fowler

Reg Fowler was a low-key athlete who let his outstanding skills speak for themselves. Born in Peterborough in 1934, his abilities as a team player and leader, and his athletic versatility came to the fore early. In high school, Reg played on three COSSA Football Championship Teams in 1948, 1949 and 1950. He was also a member of two COSSA basketball finalists at PCVS.

Fowler quarterbacked the Peterborough Orfuns to the Canadian Intermediate A football title in 1955. He also played on six City Softball League Championship Teams, and in 1959 and 1960, he was the starting first baseman with the Lakefield Charltons when they won back-to-back Ontario Intermediate A Softball Championships.

While coaching in the Church Hockey League, Reg’s team reached the 1959 Peewee Championship final, then won it all in 1960. He also served 11 years as an executive member of the CGE Social and Athletic Association.

Reg Fowler was respected as the ultimate team player.
