Paul S. B. Wilson

Paul Wilson came to Peterborough in 1966 to become athletic director at Trent University and brought with him a skill and love of squash, rugby and cricket. Since then he has carved out a unique career in sports as an exceptional athlete, coach, referee and builder. Paul has also inspired generations of Trent students and the community at large with his dedication, skill and good humour.

Born in Orpington, England, Paul came to Canada in 1960 and as a student at the University of Toronto in 1964, was awarded the George M. Biggs Trophy as outstanding athlete for his leadership, sportsmanship and performance in squash and rugby.

He is a six-time city champion in squash and, in his age group, twice provincial champion. During his distinguished squash career, Paul has also been a finalist in Canadian, U.S. and World Masters squash championships.

In 1993, he received Squash Ontario’s highest honour, the Special Achievement Award for his contributions as a player, coach and administrator.

Paul has organized numerous local squash tournaments and international rugby tours.

He played for the Peterborough Pagans rugby team for 10 years including 1967 when they won the Ontario Intermediate Championship. He has been a long-time rugby referee at the high school, university and senior club level and is honorary life member of the Peterborough Rugby Union Football Club.
