Paul Evans
Paul Evans was a gifted athlete who starred in both lacrosse and hockey from an early age.
Born in Peterborough, Paul’s team achievements include an incredible nine provincial championships in five age divisions in minor lacrosse and two Ontario Minor Hockey Association midget titles. He was also on four city minor softball championship teams with St. Alphonsus Church. He would later give back to the local sports community by coaching minor lacrosse for 17 years, picking up more provincial championships.
Paul was on four Minto Cup Championship Teams in junior lacrosse from 1972 to 1975 and would later coach a Minto Cup winning team. As a player, he was the MVP in the 1973 final against Burnaby. An explosive scorer, he once rifled in a record 13 goals in one league game.
Paul also played on four senior lacrosse Mann Cup Championship Teams in 1978, 80, 82 and 84.
He also made his mark in hockey graduating from the Junior B Lions to the Junior A Petes; and playing in the Memorial Cup finals in 1971. He played with the Petes from 1971 to 1975 including the 1973 Petes’ trip to Russia.
Known as a tough, hard-working and crafty hockey player, Paul played 27 games over two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL. He also played professional hockey in Oklahoma, Dallas and Michigan.
Paul was named Peterborough’s Senior Athlete of the Year in 1974.
