Nancy (Clarke) Sharpe
Squash, softball, slo-pitch, marathon running, triathlon, biathlon and duathlon; Nancy Sharpe has excelled at these sports and many more in an outstanding, lengthy and remarkably versatile athletic career. A seven-time member of the Canadian Triathlon Team for Olympic and Half-Ironman Distances, Nancy has competed at World Triathlon Championships in Mexico, Australia and Canada. She qualified eight times for Ironman USA and Ironman Canada Triathlons and finished 3rd in her age division in 1999 in Penticton, British Columbia.
Nancy is a four-time qualifier for the Boston Marathon, running the 100th Anniversary of that historic race in 1996. A member of the Ontario Triathlon Team in 1995, she is five-time winner in her age group in the Provincial Triathlon Series. In 1988, Nancy was presented with the Government of Canada Gold Medal for her athletic achievements.
Nancy’s squash career includes championship awards at National and Provincial levels. She was a seven-time Central Ontario Ladies ‘A’ Squash Champion and eight-time City of Peteroborugh Ladies ‘A’ Champion. She competed in the World Masters Squash Championship in 1985.
In softball and slo-pitch, Nancy was a member of many City and Provincial Championship teams. She received the MVP award in women’s College basketball in 1969. Nancy was the first Canadian woman to win the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award for athletics, arts and crafts, community service, wilderness excursions and youth leadership.
