Marnie Wade
Marni Wade was born and raised in Ennismore and, at a very young age, she took the figure skating world by storm. By the age of 15, Marni and her pairs partner, Lenny Faustino of Woodbridge, had earned both national and international success.
Marni’s home club was the Ennismore Figure Skating Club, but she also trained in Peterborough and Barrie. Coached locally by Elaine Hancock, Cindy Mein-Maloney, Elaine McAuliffe and John Scott, Marni later trained under Doug Leigh and Lee Barkell at the Mariposa National Training Centre in Barrie. Marni competed at the Canadian Championships in 1993-1997.
In 1995, Marni and Lenny made the Canadian National Junior Figure Skating Team placing first in the Junior World Trials in Ottawa. That same year they traveled to Brisbane, Australia for the Junior World Figure Skating Championships where they skated to an 11th place finish. They captured gold in Novice Pairs at the Canadian Championships in 1996 and later traveled to Germany and France to represent Canada. Marni received the Peterborough Examiner Athlete of the Year Award in 1996 for her accomplishments.
In 1996, they were once again named to the Canadian National Junior Team where they traveled to Seoul, Korea placing 10th in the world. They placed third at the Canadian Championships in Junior Pairs and won the “Possibility Award” for their performance in 1997.
The induction of Marni into the Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to her outstanding figure-skating accomplishments.
