Larry Oakley

Growing up in Peterborough, Larry experimented with many different sports. Starting hockey late (age 13), he advanced quickly through Peewee house league to All-Star at Bantam, Midget and Juvenile where he played in the Ontario finals in 1972 and 1973. He played Junior B hockey for Peterborough in 1973-74 and Junior C with Cobourg Cougars in 1974-75.

Progressing through Tyke and Peewee softball with Mark Street in the Peterborough Church Softball League, Larry went on to play Bantam and Midget All-Star softball in Peterborough. He played in the Men’s City Softball League from 1976-1995 winning the league championship four times with Deck Transport. In baseball he was an all-star from Tyke through to Senior, where he played with the Senior Tigers from 1976 to 1995, winning the Senior B OBA Championship in 1976. He was a six time Eastern Ontario Baseball Association All-Star in 1978, 1979, 1982-83-84 & 1986. Larry coached the Senior River Dogs in 2005 and 2006 and was named the 2005 ‘Manager/Coach of The Year’ for the Greater Toronto Baseball League.

A good all-round high school athlete, Larry earned the Thomas A. Stewart S.S. Athlete Award in 1975. Peterborough Touch Football has been a passion for Larry and he has won the league championship 12 times from 1977 to present. Larry has spent much of his time working on behalf of baseball in Peterborough, where he was the driving force to help build the Little League baseball’s ‘Fisher Park’.
