Larry Floyd
Growing up in Peterborough, Larry Floyd was one of the most talented athletes of his generation. A standout in both hockey and lacrosse, he was Rookie of the Year, Top Scorer and MVP with the 1978-79 Peterborough OHA Junior Bees, posting 118 points in 43 games; was a member of the 78-79 Memorial Cup Champion Petes; and the 79 Mann Cup Champion Senior Red Oaks, winning both the Memorial Cup and the Mann Cup in the same year. In 1979-80, Larry scored 58 points in 66 games adding 15 points in 14 play-off games, earning another trip to the Memorial Cup losing to Cornwall in the final. The Petes top scorer and MVP in 1982, Larry finished his junior career with 251 points. Added to his impressive resume, he was the OLA Jr. A. Rookie of the Year in 1978; had a Minto Cup final appearance in 1979 and won two Minto Cup Championships in 1981 and 1982 with the James Gang. He was the Minto Cup MVP in 1981 and 1982. With 825 points, Larry sits 14th in all-time Canadian Junior A Lacrosse scoring. A career in pro hockey took Larry to the USA and Europe where he played for 12 years and coached another 6. He had a short stint in the NHL with the New Jersey Devils before carving out an outstanding career in the AHL, CHL and IHL playing one season in Austria. He won CHL Rookie of the Year honours in 1982-83 with the Wichita Wind scoring 83 points in 75 games. He scored 86 points in 74 games, adding 17 play-off points to help the Maine Mariners win the 1984 Calder Cup. Larry finished his career with the San Diego Gulls in 1994. In 929 pro games played, he scored 882 (350 goals) points. He coached minor-pro hockey from 1994-1999 winning the SHL Championship in 1995-96 with the Huntsville, Alabama Channel Cats. He played roller hockey with the San Diego Barracudas in 1993 and 1994. Larry Floyd had a remarkable career and achieved success at every level in every sport that he played.
