I. C. (Mick) Magee
Mick Magee is a sporting institution in Peterborough, yet virtually no one, including his many teammates, know him by his proper moniker: Isaiah Clinton Magee. Born in Omemee in 1910, he achieved stardom in three sports, not to mention the numerous awards he earned swimming, diving and weightlifting.
He spent many youthful hours at the YMCA and, as he grew up, many more hours away from home. Mick played hockey locally before turning pro with Miami Clippers of the Tropical Hockey League in 1938. Later, he joined the Akron, OH team in the Michigan-Ontario League, before coming back here to play for the Ontario Sr. B Champion McGillis Eagles.
Magee played with the Orfuns in 1938, later with both Hamilton Tigers and Hamilton Wildcats, and an RCAF football team at Hagersville, ON. After World War II, he was an executive of the Orfuns’ Club. His lacrosse career covers several Sr. B titles in the 1930s and four straight Mann Cups 1951-54. He died in 1995.
