Heather Richardson
Raised in Norwood, Heather was an all round good high school athlete who excelled at every sport she played – volleyball, track, x-country, x-country skiing, basketball (including as a member of the boys team) and badminton. She was an MVP in each sport throughout her high school career. In 93 and 94 she competed at OFSAA Track & Field; won ORSA Bantam Softball Championships in 90 & 91; competed at Provincial and National Ball Hockey Championships 1997-2002 winning 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. She played hockey in the United Counties League, PGHA, Peterborough Skyway Senior AAA, and was recruited to NCAA Division I Colby College.
While at the University of Toronto she won an OUA Championship in 1997-98 and a silver at the Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) National Championships in 1998. She played for the Toronto Aeros in the National Women’s Hockey League winning bronze at Nationals in 1996. She was invited to attend Hockey Canada Selection Camps from 1996-98. After a successful playing career, Heather turned her attention to officiating in 2001. She spent years of on-going training to become certified as a Level V official with Hockey Canada. This allowed her to officiate at Provincial, National and International events. She has officiated at Canadian National and World Women’s Hockey Championships, Esso Women’s Hockey Championships, Clarkson Cup, CIS University Nationals, Four Nationals Cup, Under 18 Women’s National and World Championships.
All of her hard work paid off in receiving the honour of being selected to officiate at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver where she was selected for the semi-finals and gold medal games. In total she has officiated at 16 National and 7 International Championships. Since retiring as a competition official, Heather has coached in North York and continues as a referee instructor and supervisor for the OWHA.
