Glenn John Pagett
Born in Peterborough in 1935, Glenn has enjoyed a life time in sports – softball, hockey, soccer, baseball, curling, golf and slo-pitch. He came up through the Peterborough minor hockey system and played senior for Millbrook and Havelock. He was a skilled baseball player in the Senior EOBL Baseball League in 1953 and ended his playing days with the Lindsay Intermediates. His baseball ability caught the eye of a pro baseball scout. As a curler, Glenn was a successful skip for both men’s and mixed teams, twice winning the Division Silver Tankard. Glenn coached minor softball, hockey and men’s slo-pitch.
Softball was the sport where Glenn achieved the most success. He played senior softball from the age of 14. He was on the 1955 & 56 Civic Softball Championship teams with Bill’s Lunch and the Ontario Industrial Softball finalists in 1965 and 1966 with CGE. He won OASA Intermediate “A” Softball Championships with the Lakefield Charlton’s in 1959 and 1960. His long and distinguished career in the City Men’s Softball League spanned from 1957-1978. He was named “Rookie of the Year” in 1957 and went on to win eight City League Championships. He was a classy, versatile infielder and was a fine pitcher and consistent hitter. He was a member of the 5-man Ray Judd touring team. In 1961 Glenn was awarded the Chuck Kearns Memorial Trophy as Athlete of the Year for the City of Peterborough.
