Diana L. Drury
Born in 1961, Diana excelled as a local Peterborough athlete. At age 9, she bowled a record-high 346 game. She played with the Lakefield Kingdon Lumber Ladies Fastball Team from the age of 13, winning two Provincial Championships. She was Peterborough Junior Female Athlete of the Year in 1977. Diana was elected to the Kenner Collegiate Hall of Fame in 1998. She coached the U.E. Midget Boys Lacrosse Team to their first National Championship in 1982. She was top scorer/captain 4 of 5 years from 1975-79 in her favourite sport, box lacrosse. Diana was a member of the Ontario Field Lacrosse Team (1979-1986), captain (1983-86) and ‘Top Goal Scorer’ at the Nationals (1986). She played on the National Field Lacrosse squad from 1982-86.
Diana left Peterborough in 1980 to attend Queen’s University. She became a member/captain of the Golden Gaels Hockey Team. She was a member of the 1991-93 Ontario Intermediate A Eastern Canadian Champion Women’s Fastball Teams. At age 42, Diana played on the Ontario Silver Medal Team which competed at the Nationals. She was ‘OCAA Coach of the Year’ in 1989-90 and 1991-93. In 1990-91, Diana became the OWIAA Women’s Ice Hockey University ‘Coach of the Year’ and was ‘Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Coaching Excellence Award Winner’ in 1992. Diana was inducted into the Sports Wall of Fame at St. Lawrence College (1999), the Queen’s Coaches Wall of Fame (2002), and the OCAA Hall of Honour (2003). She received a Provincial Twenty-Year Service Award in 2007.
