Dennis Patterson

Hockey honours came early to this talented young player. Born in Peterborough in 1950, Dennis began playing ice hockey at age five with George Street United in the Peterborough Community Church Hockey League.

In 1962 he was selected to the Peterborough Minor Hockey Association’s peewee All-Star team that captured the prestigious Quebec tournament. During his midget and juvenile years with the PCCHL, Dennis played for the 1965-66 midget and 1966-67 juvenile OMHA champions. In 1967-68 Dennis was a star with the Chatham Jr. B Maroons and was selected to the Western Ontario All-Star team. During his first of two years with the Jr. A Petes, he was their 1968-69 Rookie of the Year.

In 1970, Minnesota North Stars, of the NHL, drafted him as a defenceman in the third round. His first assignment was semi-pro at Clinton, NY followed by stops at Cleveland, OH and New Haven, CT of the American Hockey League. During his NHL career he played 138 games for the Kansas City Scouts and Philadelphia Flyers. In the World Hockey Association he played 23 games with Edmonton.

In 1977 he returned to the AHL with the Maine Mariners where he won two Calder Cup championships, three All-Star selections and was captain of the team for seven consecutive seasons. In total he played 820 games in the AHL.

Following his playing career, Dennis has been the head scout for Minnesota North Stars, Florida Panthers, and Philadelphia Flyers.
