Charles (Bus) Jensen
Born in Peterborough in 1932, Charles “Bus” Jensen was considered an excellent all-round athlete. He played organized hockey from Midget to Junior B winning PMHA Midget and Juvenile Championships.
As an outstanding centre fielder, Jensen played for over 10 years in the Peterborough Men’s City Softball League. His Seabrooke Motors team won city league titles in 1952 and 1954. A memorable moment for Bus was playing against a touring team of Major League Baseball All-Stars which included Jim Piersall from the Boston Red Sox and Clem Labine and Don Hoak from the World Series Champion Brooklyn Dodgers. Bus was named the game MVP and was presented with the game ball.
However, it was on the football field where Bus distinguished himself. He was a provincial and national football champion. During his high school years at PCVS he won COSSA in 1948 and 1951. He was a member of the Peterborough Orfuns Intermediate Ontario Champions from 1952-1955 and Eastern Canadian Champions from 1952, 1954 and 1955. The Orfuns were the Dominion Football Championship finalists in 1954 in Winnipeg; and the Dominion Football Champions in 1955.
Bus also spent many years coaching minor hockey and industrial softball.
