Carol (Eastmure) Love
Carol Love has dedicated her life to rowing, as athlete, coach and developer of the sport in the Peterborough area.
Beginning her rowing career at McMaster University in 1971, Carol was a member of the 1976 Canadian Women’s Eight at the Montreal Olympics. The team placed fourth in the first Olympics for female rowers. Carol and the crew went on the following year to win a bronze medal at the 1977 World Rowing Championships, the first women’s team to win a world rowing medal for Canada. She was a crew member of Peterborough Rowing Club’s gold medal women’s senior eight at the 1981 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
Carol has played a key role in the development and success of rowing at both Trent University and the Peterborough Rowing Club and initiated high school women’s rowing at Peterborough Collegiate in 1978. She has coached high school, university and club, mens and womens crews, to provincial and national titles. Under her guidance, two Peterborough rowers went on to win Olympic gold medals. As Head Coach of the Ontario Rowing Team at the 2005 Canada Games, Carol led the squad on to win the regatta. She has been awarded Rowing Canada’s 25 Year Service Pin and has received Ontario University Athletic Association Rowing Coach of the Year honours in 2004 and 2006.
Carol’s influence on the sport of rowing in Peterborough is immeasurable.
