Bob Wasson
Bob Wasson was an all-round athlete but his greatest achievements were in lacrosse and hockey.
Bob led Peterborough lacrosse teams to five consecutive Minto Cup appearances, losing in 1971, then winning four straight Cups with Bob as captain. He won MVP honours in the 1975 series. Bob played in six Mann Cup playoffs winning championships in 1978, ’80, ’82, and ’84 with teams from Peterborough and Brampton. He was the Peterborough Lakers captain from 1982 to 1985. When Bob retired he was second in Mann Cup all-time scoring. His nine year stint as a member of Canada’s Field Lacrosse team culminated in World Cup appearances in 1982 and 1986.
Bob’s minor hockey career include two Triple A midget OMHA championships in 1969/70 and 1970/71 followed by two years with the Peterborough Jr. B Lions where he was top scorer in 1972/73 and a first team league All-Star centre. As a member of the Jr. A Peterborough Petes he played in the first ever World Junior championship series in 1973/74 held in Russia. Playing with York University from 1974 to 1977 he was selected MVP and named to the All-Canadian university team in 1975. He was top scorer with the Barrie Senior A club in 1977/78.
Bob was Peterborough’s Senior Athlete of the Year in 1973 and 1975. He was also the lacrosse representative for Canada’s Junior Athlete of the Year in 1975.
