Tim Barrie
Born in Peterborough, Tim took up the game of lacrosse early in life. In his novice year the team lacked a goalie and brother Don, the coach, determined that the 8 year old would fill the role. Tim turned this opportunity into a successful career. He won four Ontario junior lacrosse titles; three Minto Cup Championships 1972-73-74 with the PCO’s; three Mann Cup senior titles 1978 and 1982 with Peterborough and 1980 with Brampton; a World Field Lacrosse Championship in 1978; the 1975 National Lacrosse League title; and a 1982 World Championship bronze medal. He was named the MVP of the 1974 Minto Cup and the 1978 Mann Cup. Tim was Rookie of the Year for the NLL Long Island Tomahawks in 1975 and he was awarded the Charlie Kearns Memorial Award as Peterborough Senior Male Athlete in 1978.
After retirement, Tim continued his involvement in the game as the Chairman of Team Canada in the 1988, 2003 and 2008 World U19 Lacrosse Championships. His long-standing sponsorship and leadership as President of the Junior ‘A’ Lakers has ensured the ongoing success of the junior lacrosse program in Peterborough. Tim’s commitment and contribution to the game of lacrosse was recognized in 1998 with his induction to the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and in 2004 he received the distinction of being one of only three Peterborough goalies to be inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
