Condolences on the Passing of Sports Legend Paul Wilson
It is with sadness that we recognize the passing of 2002 inductee Paul S.B. Wilson, who died January 4th, 2026 after a short illness. He was 87.
Wilson, heavily involved in Rugby, Squash, Cricket and athletics in general, was a highly decorated sportsman in our community. He was inducted into the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, The University of Toronto Hall of Fame in 2003, and the City of Peterborough Pathway of Fame in 2016.
Serving for almost 40 years as Athletic Director at Trent University, his goal was sport involvement and accessibility for the majority. And he accomplished his goal!
From his induction biography, “Born in Orpington, England, Paul came to Canada in 1960 and as a student at the University of Toronto in 1964, was awarded the George M. Biggs Trophy as outstanding athlete for his leadership, sportsmanship and performance in squash and rugby.
He is a six-time city champion in squash and, in his age group, twice provincial champion. During his distinguished squash career, Paul has also been a finalist in Canadian, U.S. and World Masters squash championships.”
Paul has been a fixture at our induction events ever since his own induction, bringing greetings from the Queen/King followed by delivering the blessing before our annual ceremony. His generosity, wit and tremendous sense of humour will be missed!
We were lucky enough to have Dan Malta interview Paul for our Sports Legends Series, and have attached the link for your convenience.
