Jack Carpenter, Founding Father of the Hall of Fame, Dies

Condolences are extended to the family of Jack Carpenter, a founding member of the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame, who passed away October 9, 2024.

Instrumental in generating interest in a local Hall of Fame, Jack and his team first recognized Lloyd “Moon” Wootton, a local lacrosse hero, at a banquet at the former Red Oak Inn in 1977. Wootton was followed by lacrosse and football great Lou Nickle in 1978. This proved to be the beginnings of our annual induction ceremonies, now held every June.

The members of the original committee who, in 1979, established the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame included: Jack Carpenter, Gerry O’Connor, Paul Epping, Millie Cartmell, Bobby Allan and Bob Delpellaro.

Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years Marilyn, their children Cindy and Ed(Carrie) and grandchildren Brendan (Juliana) and Alisha (Hannah).
