Robert C. (Bob) Allen
As a multisport athlete, Bob Allen’s extensive career involved a number of sports including hockey, football, softball, and tug-of-war. Bob played minor hockey in Douro and Warsaw where he captained the Warsaw Redmen to two Juvenile “D” OMHA Championships (57/58) and won two Junior “D” OMHA titles (59/60). He played with the Warsaw Intermediates in the East Peterborough Hockey League; a number of years in other local leagues and CGE shop league hockey, winning the scoring title 3 times. Bob also played oldtimer’s hockey until age 70. At St. Peter High School, Bob played junior and senior football (half back) and was a member of the Junior COSSA championship team in 1956. Following high school, he played three years with the Peterborough Intermediate Orfuns football club. In City Men’s Softball, he was both catcher and manager for Norm Bowlers winning two league titles (67/69). Bob was a member of the (66/67/68) CGE championship tug-of-war team. He has given back to sports in many ways: a football official for 10 years; introduced minor soccer and T-ball to Douro Township; coached soccer in Douro and Peterborough; coached minor hockey in Otonabee and Douro, taking the pee-wee team to the 1980 OMHA finals. He was the
driving force in the construction of the first soccer field in Douro Park and in the establishment of the Douro Community Centre in 1980. Bob Allen has dedicated his life to the betterment of his community not only in sports, but by being active on numerous municipal boards/organizations as a member of Township of Douro Council (1970-85), Councillor, Deputy Reeve, Reeve, and appointed Peterborough County Warden in 1983. In his role as Township CAO/Treasurer Bob continued to prioritize growth of local sports in his community.
