Condolences to the Family of Joyce Corner
It is with sadness that we share the passing of Joyce Corner, who died last week after suffering a stroke. She was 97 years of age. She is survived by her children Janice, Gord, Doug and Bill as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her synchronized swimming duet partner and sister, Diane Ferguson.
Joyce, an accomplished synchronized swimmer, was inducted into the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame in 1991 in the Builder category. She also received the Synchro Canada Bridge Builders Award and is an inductee to the Ontario Artistic Swimming Wall of Honour. She was a co-founder of the Mississauga Synchro Club in the late 1960’s and became a part of the Kawartha-Trent Synchro Club in 1974.

Joyce distinguished herself in many ways. She is a FINA ‘A’ judge and has officiated many competitions: Canada Winter Games (1975); World Aquatic Championships 1982 and 1986; Pan-Am Games 1983 and 1987; Seoul Olympics (1988); and other events around the world. A tireless worker representing Peterborough, Ontario and Canada in many capacities for her sport, Joyce has been honoured numerous times, including: Civic Sports Award 1977, 1984, 1989; Peterborough Sportswoman of the Year (1981); Ontario Special Achievement Award; CASSA Board of Directors Honour Award; Ontario ASSA recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service; and was the Masters Congress delegate to the World Aquatic Championships in Australia, in 1991.
