Condolences to the family of Donald “Red” Wasson

The Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame is sad to announce the passing of Don “Red” Wasson on Friday, October 28th, 2022.  Red Wasson was a well known athlete and coach during his career.  He contributed significantly to the sporting communities of Peterborough and Lakefield in softball and hockey.  Red also made a significant contribution to the development and success of the Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame.

He was a long serving volunteer of the Sports Hall of Fame and during his tenure as Chair, he guided the Hall through the renovations of the Peterborough Memorial Centre.  His interest and passion for military history, in particular collecting WWI & WWII Hat Badges, inspired the Hall to create an annual Remembrance Exhibit.  It was Red’s desire to honour all local and area Veterans which we will continue to do in his memory.

Red was a wise and well respected leader at the Hall of Fame.  He was a wonderful story teller with a great sense of humour and an amazing encyclopedic mind.  It was an experience and a privilege to sit around the coffee table with him.  He will be missed.

We would like to extend sincere condolences to Marie and the Wasson Family.
