Condolences to the family of Dr. Don Curtis
The Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame wishes to extend condolences to the family and friends of 1983 Inductee Dr. Don Curtis. Don, predeceased by first wife Elizabeth Joan (BJ) of more than 50 years, is survived by his wife Janice, sons John (Karen), Ron (Tammy) and Gary (Leah) as well as grandchildren Aaron, Morgan, Taylor and Andy.
A physician in Peterborough, Dr. Curtis practiced Family Medicine at the Peterborough Clinic for more than 40 years.
Inducted for his contributions across many platforms as a builder and administrator, Don was instrumental in organizing activities such as ParticipACTION, the Ontario Games, the Peterborough Challenge, and the Family Y Half Marathon, a co-owner of the Lacrosse Lakers, to name only a few.
Don will be remembered for the volunteer work that he did at the Hall. Don was instrumental in managing the accession database with his colleague Don Ferguson. Today, we continue to add to the files these gentlemen built.
From Dr. Curtis’ induction biography, “Dr. Don Curtis was heavily involved in the administrative level of numerous Peterborough sporting activities, a man who worked behind the scenes where hard work is often unrecognized or overlooked.”
He will be missed by our community.
Don’s family will celebrate his life in a private family service with a public celebration to take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre or the YMCA of Central East Ontario.
