Dr. Don Curtis

Dr. Don Curtis was heavily involved in the administrative level of numerous Peterborough sporting activities, a man who worked behind the scenes where hard work is often unrecognized or overlooked.

As co-chairman and founder of ParticipACTION Peterborough, he was involved in the initiation and organization of such events and activities as Sportsfest, the Peterborough Challenge, the Ontario Games, the mid-winter Half Marathon, employee fitness testing and other programs. He was named the city’s Outstanding Sportsman in 1969.

Don was a key figure in lacrosse for many years, through personal supports and sponsorship of Lakers’ teams. He had a long-time involvement with the Family ‘Y’ and played a key role as fund-raiser, organizer of the Fitness Testing Centre, the coronary program, etc., and was also President for many years.

Curtis was also Chairman and Member of the Board of Parks Management and Recreation for a lengthy period and made notable contributions to sports as varied as speed skating, gymnastics, football and power boating. He is a true Builder of sport.
