34th Annual Induction Dinner June 7, 2013
Were you there? Were you overcome with a sense of immense pride in our community? Were you thrilled to “catch-up” with old teammates and acquaintances?
Friday June 7, 2013 was a very special night at the Evinrude Centre as over 260 people gathered for the 2013 Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner.
When the piper sounded his first note, honoured members and their guests spontaneously rose to their feet….you could feel the anticipation of a wonderful night ahead. Six beaming individuals were ushered into the banquet hall for what would truly become a night to be remembered.
Tim Barrie, Rock Batley, Bill Crowley, Dan Sharpe, Peter Twist (accepting on behalf of his late father Bill Twist) and Jennifer Walinga stood proudly at the head table as they were applauded for their commitment to sport. As each of the inductees or their designate had a chance to speak, it became obvious that each had had tremendous support from both family and teammates throughout their personal sporting career and how that support buoyed them to participate fully and then give back to the sports from which they gained so much.
Please take some time to do a search through the ‘new and improved’ Peterborough & District Sports Hall of Fame website, find the inductees biographies, and learn a little more about our newest members. Their accomplishments are incredible. It leaves you wondering how one person can achieve so much! They truly are worthy recipients of this tremendous honour, as they now join the over 250 members currently inducted into the Hall of Fame!
Enjoy looking at the photos of the evening. See if you can spot familiar faces in the crowd.
As you browse through the website, think of athletes you may know who might be worthy of nomination into the Hall of Fame. Follow the link on the home page for the application form and nomination criteria.
Will you be there with us next year as we honour the 2014 inductees?? Contact the Hall for further details!
