Steve Casey

Steve Casey

Born in Peterborough in 1949, Steve Casey has devoted his life to developing and supporting the game of hockey in this community. Most notably, the Peterborough Liftlock Atom Hockey Tournament. From 1969, Steve has made a commitment to make this tournament the best Atom Tournament in the world. He has been the tournament Chairman since 1986. Steve’s love of hockey started when he played minor hockey for St. Giles in the Church League. He then went on to play intramural hockey for Sir Sandford Fleming College. Over his 40 years with the Peterborough Community Church Hockey League, he has worked his way up the volunteer ladder from Convener of the various house league divisions to the league President. He has also been a house league coach.

Volunteering is a way of life for Steve. He has been the President of the Bowling Club at Lakeview Bowl and a member of the Board of Directors at the Kawartha Golf and Country Club. In 1997, Steve was the recipient of the City of Peterborough Red Sullivan Sports Personality of the Year Award.

A newspaper headline sums up Steve Casey, “One man’s minor hockey love affair benefits so many” (Barry Larock, Peterborough Examiner 1993).
