Robert (Bobby) Young

Robert (Bobby) Young is a man for all seasons, active in Ennismore sports for more than 50 years.

Born December 29, 1930, Bobby was involved in a full variety of sports:  baseball, softball, fastball, hockey (ice, ball and floor), lacrosse and curling as a participant and sponsor. He was a prime factor in construction of the Ennismore Community Centre in 1972, later officially named after him, and the Ennismore Curling Club in 1976.

Initially, he coached and sponsored four men’s teams to championships of the Otonabee Men’s Hockey League, then, from 1980 through 1985 he coached and sponsored the Ennismore Juvenile teams, capturing OMHA provincial honours at hockey. In the Peterborough Men’s City League Softball, his teams earned championships in 1985 and 1987. He also sponsored the Shamrock Lacrosse Club, floor and ball hockey teams and the Ennismore-Bridgenorth women’s softball league champs of 2003.

He also received many individual recognitions:  the Doug Dart Minor Hockey Award in 1986; the Don Bell Memorial Trophy in 2001; and the County of Peterborough Recognition Award in 2003.

Robert Young’s contribution to his community has earned him honoured membership into the Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame.
