Richard (Dick) Redmond

Richard (Dick) Redmond

For 13 seasons, Dick Redmond was a rugged, rushing defenceman in the NHL, playing with Minnesota, California, Chicago, St. Louis, Atlanta and Boston. He scored 133 goals and had 312 assists for a points’ total of 445 in 771 games.

Born in Kirkland Lake, ON in 1949, Dick moved to Peterborough with his family three years later and honed his hockey skills on an outdoor rink near his home. He played for an OMHA titlist in 1961, and for the team which won the Quebec International Peewee tourney grand championship in 1962. Dick played two seasons with the Petes Jr. A club as a forward, then moved to St. Catharines where he became an All-Star rear-guard.

He was a first round draft choice to the NHL and enjoyed considerable success as a pro, retiring in 1982 when an elbow injury failed to respond to treatment.

His best “other” sport was golf. Dick holds the amateur record at the Kawartha Golf & Country Club where, in 1977, he shot a 65.
