Pat Devlin
Pat Devlin first walked into the Peterborough Midtown Boxing Club in 1976 at the age of 15. He went on to a successful career of 105 fights with 86 wins in the lightweight, lightwelterweight and welterweight divisions. He was a silver medalist at the 1978 Ontario Winter Games; the Ontario Provincial Open Class Champion gold medalist in 1979, 1980 and 1981; 1980 Ontario vs Nova Scotia Champion and 1980 silver medalist at the Canadian National Championships. Competing at the Ontario Provincial Championships he won silver in 1982 and gold in 1983. He won silver at the 1984 Olympic Qualifying Ontario Provincial Championships and was the silver medalist at the 1988 Alberta Provincial Championships. Pat was a recipient of the 1980 Provincial Government of Ontario Award and the City of Peterborough Civic Sports Award in 1978, 1980, 1981 and 1983. Pat’s hometown fights were always electrifying and full of excitement for his many local fans. He has fought five Olympians;the most noteworthy being Canadian, World and Olympic silver medalist Shawn O’Sullivan, in which Shawn won a split decision. Pat was known for his “willie” punch in which he stopped 68 of his opponents with this devastating left hook to the body. He hung up his gloves in the late 1980’s to pursue his career outside of boxing. Keeping fit over the years Pat made a comeback in 2011, at age 50, to have a Masters fight in Peterborough, which he won over his Quebec opponent.
