Lee Vitarelli

Lee Vitarelli

The Vitarelli name in Peterborough is synonymous with lacrosse. So it is natural that when Lee was born September 13, 1949, it helped extend the family legacy in the sport to more than 60 years. His father Lou and uncles, Ned and Dootch were outstanding players who were known throughout the local sports community.

It was also natural, that at an early age, Lee helped youngsters to learn the game with special attention to his younger brother Mark.

He became very proficient at the management level and from 1973 until his election to the Hall of Fame as a Builder, he managed eight Minto Cup championship teams from 1974 through to 1989 and added a ninth in 2006. His teams also earned 11 Ontario championships.

Lee’s involvement at the pro level included serving as Assistant Manager to the Syracuse Smash (2000) and the Ottawa Rebels (2001), finishing the season with Ottawa as Manager. He was a scout for the Rochester Nighthawks (2002) and from 2003 until present has scouted for the Colorado Mammoth.

Lee is an elected member of the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and has received OLA recognition for his contribution and dedication to the game. He has spearheaded numerous fundraising drives to support minor lacrosse and his organizational skills are acknowledged anywhere the game is seriously played.

Lee has also contributed greatly to the local minor hockey scene as an executive on the Hockey Council for ten years.
