Joyce Corner

Joyce Corner, a part-time resident of our area most of her life and a full-timer since 1975, has been interested in synchronized swimming for many years. She started the Mississauga Synchro Club in 1969 and in 1974 became a coach of the Kawartha Synchro Club which changed its name to Kawartha Trent Synchro Club in the late 1970s.

Joyce distinguished herself in many ways. She is a FINA ‘A’ judge and has officiated many competitions:  Canada Winter Games (1975); World Aquatic Championships 1982 and 1986; Pan-Am Games 1983 and 1987; Seoul Olympics (1988); and other events around the world. A tireless worker representing Peterborough, Ontario and Canada in many capacities for her sport, Joyce has been honoured numerous times, including:

Civic Sports Award 1977, 1984, 1989; Peterborough Sportswoman of the Year (1981); Ontario Special Achievement Award; CASSA Board of Directors Honour Award; Ontario ASSA recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service; and was the Masters Congress delegate to the World Aquatic Championships in Australia, in 1991.
