Greg Hamilton
Greg Hamilton was an outstanding athlete playing baseball from Tyke to Midget in the Triple AAA and All -Star system, and hockey from Triple AAA Atom to Junior B. He was a 9th round draft pick of the hometown Petes. In 1985 he earned an athletic scholarship to Princeton University. While at Princeton he played Varsity Hockey earning the “Freshman Player of the Year Award” and was also a pitcher for the Princeton Tigers Varsity Baseball program. After graduating from Princeton in 1988, Greg changed his career path from player to Coach, Scout and General Manager. He worked as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for two years at Princeton where in 1991 the team won the Ivy League Championship. From 1993-98 he was the Head Coach and General Manager of the Montpellier Barracudas in the French Elite League, where he guided the team to three consecutive French National Championships and a Bronze Medal at the European Championship. The City of Montpellier named Greg an Honorary Citizen in 1997 and in 2012 named the Teams field Greg Hamilton Baseball Park. He served as the Pitching Coach for the French and Canadian National Teams in 1994 and in 1998 as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the University of Maine. Greg Hamilton’s involvement with Baseball Canada’s National Teams program spans over two decades. From 1992-1995, he was the Pitching Coach with the Senior National Team before taking over the Junior National Team program in 1996. Hamilton joined Baseball Canada full time in 1998 and to this day serves in his role as Coach & Director National Teams. In addition to his coaching duties, he is responsible for evaluating and selecting players, coaches and staff for Canada’s Senior and Junior National Teams. He has been General Manager and a member of the Team Canada coaching staff for three World Baseball Classic events (2006, 2009, 2013), two Olympics (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008) and two Gold Medal Pan Am Games (Mexico 2011, Toronto 2015). Greg Hamilton continues to be recognized as one of baseball’s most influential Canadians for his coaching and player development contributions and managerial responsibilities with the Canadian National Baseball Program.
