Don Dorsett

Don Dorsett is a life-long Peterborough resident whose commitment to minor hockey is legendary.

Active with the Mark Street Church Organization, Don is recognized as a family man of integrity and dedication — the epitome of what comes to mind when Church League is mentioned.

A co-founder of the Liftlock Atom Tournament in 1969, Don is still involved in this event, recognized as the world’s largest weekend Atom Tournament. Dorsett coached the Peterborough Community Church Hockey League All-Star teams from 1959 through 1972; the Liftlock Grand Champions of 1967-68 and the PCCHL Novice Champions of 1970 and 1972.

His teams won the Brampton Lions Novice Tournament Grand Championship in 1962 and 1972, and the “A” Championship in 1961, 62 & 63. In OMHA play, they were zone finalists and winners of the Kingston Novice Tourney in 1970-71; and were consolation champs of Novice events in Ajax and Burlington, 1971-72

Don Dorsett’s long-term commitment to youth has earned him the Brampton Lions Award (1975), the Frank Lustic Award (1986), and the Rube Brady Award (1993).

Don also organized and coached Mark Street Church Softball teams for many years.

During World War II, Don served with the RCNVR. He died in 2008.
